I hesitate to think that Kanye’s real-life romance with Kim is part of a grander racial and class-based commentary. I think images of Kanye and Kim riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle isn’t particularly interested in raising commentary on racial politics and is instead a simple elegy to their mutual affection for one another. When Kanye and Kim share a kiss, it’s because they love each other. When Kanye shows horses in slow motion, it’s because he probably thinks that it’s a romantic image. I’m just not sure how race and class issues feed into images of deserts, wildlife, and the open road in a personal song about budding love. It seems like people are trying too desperately to read these ideas into the video rather than reading the ideas from it.
